Steam Is Taking Up Too Much of Valve's Time

I’d say that today’s release of Portal 2 belies that assertion somewhat, but even that game took almost three and a half years to appear.
[Steam's] had an effect on their own development schedule. There's not been a new Half-Life in a long time; a lot of people have complained about that....When one of your groups is so ridiculously profitable, every business instinct you have is to throw all your best people at it.

Hard to argue with Valve's apparent choice to focus resources on Steam from a business perspective, though.
