Alan Wake Sequel Is not a Sequel

Remedy Entertainment tells us that the next Alan Wake game will not fit into any normal category:
But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC.

Come on. It either continues the story or it doesn't.

If it's a "reboot," then the developers have screwed up royally. The game is barely a year old, and it stands well on its own.

It could be a prequel, I suppose, though Alan did not seem to have any memories of anything supernatural happening to him before.

I don't understand why developers suddenly feel the need to be coy about upcoming releases. id Software basically said the same thing about Doom 4.

Is it now unacceptable to just say you're making a sequel? Sequels are usually very popular, and in many cases, they are superior to the original. Take Assassin's Creed II and Half-Life 2 and...well, there are probably more.

Remedy also says that Fall 2011 is "a good guess" for the game's release date.
